A TYPPICAL STORY!
During a latenight walk with her dog in Seville, a young woman found a straved galgo (spanish greyhond) with acompletly atrophiated hind leg due to a open fracture of the femur that never had been cured digging in the garbage of a fenced abandoned building.
She took the poor dog in and immediatly got in touch with animal rescuers from all over Spain.
Her call for help reached us and we brought her together with our dear friend Margara who took the poor dog immediatly to the vet. The diagnosis was shattering, the poor dog had a gangrened hind leg and only amputation would save his life.
The poor dog was so malnourished that he would not have survived a surgery so he was set under antibiotics and with a special diet in a loving foster home to get him gaining strength.
He fought for him but he had no strangth anymore and did not advance, hes eyes showed sadnes, he was in unbarable pain, did not eat and so sadly it was decided that GIL, the brindle galgo rescued from Seville, had to be put to sleep.
The vet found that due to his starvation he had kidney and liver failure, he also had gangrene in the leg fracture which was giving him a huge infection in his blood. During the autopsy the vet also found that his veins were very damaged, evidence of steroid abuse by his “owners” to make him run faster. GIL is another victim of the hunting industry called "sports" in Spain!
